2024 with a brief of assignment the we have to submit with totally 4

except for the group assignment. I think Prof Jamilah gave an appropriate time
for us to complete all the task within time given.
Back to the
week 2 contains of lecture, Prof Jamilah continue for Topic 1-Introduction to
Leadership as she has covered some of the lecture on the last week. She briefed
last week topic and continuously explain about ‘why leadership is
important’? There are 4 answers, which are for crisis situations, for
organizational performance, for employee job satisfaction and for successful of
management. For crisis situation, from my view of experience, a leader’s
decision is needed when facing an urgent or crisis situation. For example,
crisis situation at a workplace, the organization facing damaged reputation
from the customer complaint, and it affects a company reputation when it viral
to social media. A leader must know how to handle the situation and know how to
manage the crisis effectively, how to plan and solve the crisis. Instead to do
internal investigations and leader should clarify the viral crisis by giving an
open statement to media to save the company reputation.
For next slide,
Prof Jamilah explained for the ‘Effective Leaders’, which involve 3
elements; knowledgeable, skilful and attitude. Knowledgeable: Leader
must know what he/she wants to do, to plan and about leadership. To be a good
leader, it is a process to seek feedback, fostering the connections, and
cultivating understanding from the followers. Remember that, leadership is a
continuous journey of learning and growth. Great leaders intentionally seek
knowledge, adapt, and develop the tenacity to motivate and guide others. In
skilful: Leadership skills like excellent communications skills,
strategic thinking, integrity and innovativeness are the important leadership
skills. Leadership skill important because to motivate, inspire and guide
others toward achieving a common goal. For me, it is also improving the team
morale, company culture and working environment. A leader is a great example to
followers. For attitude: leader must have positive attitude such as
humility, motivate, empathy and responsible because positive attitude can also
inspire and motivate team members and create a healthy work environment. These
3 elements will create leader to be an effective leader. Additionally, Prof
Jamilah also explained to be an effective leader, a leader should work with
people and must have a good communication to influence follower to
support organizational interest.
From my experience,
working in customer service industry is quite challenging now due to high
demanding and high expectation from the customer. A customer service leader
must consistently demonstrate a customer-focused mindset and approach within
the organization. For example, a leader may provide the necessary tools, such
as high-quality training, clear objectives, and templates for customer feedback
just to support employees in managing customer interactions. A successful
customer service leaders lead by the example. They prioritize the need of
others, whether its direct involve with customer or assisting employees with
daily task. All I mentioned above showing that leader should work with people
and must have a good communication within employees or customers. After
finishing explanation about an effective leader, Prof Jamilah asking the
student to share in a daily work experience, and Nurhafizah Yahaya volunteered
to share her experience. From Nurhafizah sharing, some of bosses are not
hearing your voice or suggestion in a meeting. The employees are not being satisfied
working in the organization like that.
Next slide from
Prof Jamilah is about 5 key elements of leadership; leaders-followers,
dare to change, have a right people, clear organizational objectives and can
influence the employees or follower to achieve the objectives and not for
personal interest. Next slide is about the managerial roles. According to Henry Mintzberg, there
are ten managerial roles. Of these, there are three interpersonal roles. These
include being a figurehead, leader, and also a liaison. Further,
there are three informational roles. These include being a monitor,
disseminator, and also a spokesperson. Finally, there are four decisional roles
including entrepreneur, disturbance handler, resource-allocator and negotiator.
The ten managerial roles are important to help and identify leadership
priorities and weaknesses so that we can develop management skills in all
the roles we need to perform.
Before end of
session, Prof Jamilah organized Kahoot games, and I participate on it. I
feel nervous to answer the questions but I enjoyed it so much with the pressure
of limited times and finally I got no.5 in the class. Alhamdulillah..
Kahoot Games: My place is at no.5..(😉)
Just like week
1, Prof Jamilah ended the class with quotes, ‘You can be anything, be kind, in
life always remember, what you give, you get back’. Thank you, Prof Jamilah,
for keep reminder to always be kind in whatever we do in life.
